Two basic points let it see in a synthetic way the importance of plant genetic variability to mankind:

1) From an evolutive point of view, both natural and human selection (by the domestication process), requires the existence of variability in the composition of original populations. This is an indispensable condition for proceeding.

2) Historically, genetic variability has been, is and will be the basis of the agricultural production process in the world.
