Arrhythmia and sudden death.
When a heart beats so fast and wildly that limits the pumping of blood to the body and especially to the brain, causing irreversible damage and killing one person in a few minutes, we talk about a sudden death caused by cardiac arrhythmia. In México this kind of deaths are frequent but up until now, the deaths caused by arrhythmias are not considered relevant for authorities to take action and prevention, even when sudden death takes the lives of children, young and adult people with productive lives. Heart rhythm problems can be either of the fast kind (tachycardia, fibrillation, flutter, etc) or the slow kind (bradycardia) but either kind of arrhythmia can be diagnosed, treated or even cured by an specialist through the use of medical test and high technology equipment which determines the exact type or arrhythmia experienced by the patient and lead doctors to the correct treatment to consider. But when life depends on high technology and expensive devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators, most Mexican needy patients do not always get what it is needed to save their lives, many of them will never get the treatment to correct their problem and improve their quality of life and some will die while trying to get a pacemaker of a defibrillator. To avoid this, the laboratory LECE (Lab oratorio de Electrofisiologia clínica y experimental) directed by the electro physician Dr. Luis Molina and conformed by The UNAM ( the most important Latin American university) the Mexican General Hospital ( HGM ) and the company MEDTRONIC, collaborate to give patients high quality health care. Holter monitor testing, tilt table tests, electrophysiology studies, ablation procedures, resynchronization therapies, etc are procedures practiced in this clinic where patients get diagnosed and treated and where a large number of them get the pacemakers or defibrillators they need ( much more than in any other public hospital where patients MUST to pay if they want to get a device). But to make sure that “every single patient” gets the medical services and the correct treatments, we ask for your support and help to collect funds. Your help will help this clinic to keep working and continue our research and training medical programs.
